The RRoD has struck. My Xbox is now out of action, which sucks. I was really getting into Rock Band too. Now a couple of guitar controllers lie about my game room, lazy and unused, leaving a painful reminder that I can no longer play my favourite game.
I went through the procedure to get it repaired and sent back, starting with registering online with xbox.com. As long as you have 3 segments of the red ring lit up, everything is free, even if the Xbox is out of warranty, like mine was. Otherwise, it will cost over £50. Then you need to get the Xbox packed up and picked up by UPS. I got UPS to pick mine up from work.
That was yesterday, so I reckon it will be touch and go whether or not it arrives back in time for Christmas. Go on Microsoft. I'm bored already!
UPDATE
Microsoft says: "A three-year warranty applies to conditions indicated by three red lights." So, after three years, repairs will cost just over £50.
